Agniveer Re-Medical Case: Rajasthan High Court Hears Candidate’s Plea After Medical Rejection

In a significant development concerning Defence recruitment, the Rajasthan High Court is hearing a writ petition filed by a 19-year-old aspirant seeking a re-medical examination after being declared unfit in the Agniveervayu Intake 02/2026 selection process.

The petitioner, Lokesh Kumar from Jhunjhunu district, had successfully cleared the written examination and physical fitness test conducted by the Indian Air Force. However, during the final medical stage in February 2026, he was declared unfit due to Left Varicocele and an X-ray abnormality. According to the petition, the X-ray issue was temporary and later dropped, while the remaining condition was treated through minor surgery.

Advocate Sharvan Singh Tanwar, appearing for the petitioner, argued that the candidate underwent successful surgery on February 18, 2026, and was subsequently declared medically fit by a specialist doctor. Despite producing medical records and recovery proof, the Appeal Medical Board allegedly ignored these documents and again declared him unfit on March 15, 2026.

To strengthen his claim, the petitioner underwent further medical tests, including a Colour Doppler examination, which showed no abnormality. He was also examined by a super specialist at AIIMS Jodhpur, who confirmed that he was medically fit. The petition contends that the denial of a re-medical opportunity is arbitrary and violates constitutional guarantees of equality and fair consideration in public employment.

The matter was heard by Hon’ble Rajasthan High Court Jaipur Bench on April 17, 2026. Taking note of the submissions, the Court issued notice to the respondents, including the Union of India and Air Force authorities, and granted them three weeks to file a reply. The Court observed that the matter requires consideration.

The case brings into focus a critical issue in Defence recruitment – whether a candidate can be denied selection despite curing a medical condition. The Court’s eventual decision on the plea for re-medical examination is expected to have wider implications for similar recruitment disputes.
